Warm weather threatens Olympics
Built from wood salvaged from B.C.'s pine beetle outbreak,
the Richmond Olympic Oval, venue for speed skating events at the
XXI Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, is four metres
above sea level. Unlike faster tracks at higher altitudes,
the moist, thicker sea air at the Oval is a 'worker's ice'.
Setting a world record at the Slowval will be a monumental feat.
