Is this an F-104 or an F-105?
“What makes me sure it’s a 104? Born during WWII, my love for aviation took me
early. I built models since age seven (still do) bought a J-3 Cub when I was
nineteen, got my commercial pilot’s license in 1968, followed by another aircraft
purchase and it goes on and on. All through my years I have kept my eyes on
military aircraft and having an uncle who flew the dog nosed Sabre (F-86D) further
peaked my interest. My recognition of the F-104 was instantaneous largely due to
the very small and quite thin wings not to mention the horizontal stabilizer being
mounted high on the vertical fin. Add to this the engine inlets, cockpit location and
fuselage shape and you’ve got a missile with a man in it (as it was often called), the F-104 Starfighter.

The F-105, on the other hand, was a bird of a later time. Used in Vietnam and often referred to
as “Wild Weasels” their mission was developed by the U.S. Air Force in 1965, during the war.
Its primary concept was the use of two-seat aircraft, to counter hostile radar-controlled surface-to-air weapons.”
