Judge:  “So you didn’t see the gun being fired?”

Witness:  “No, your Honour. I only heard it.”

Judge:  “Well, that’s only hearsay. It’s inadmissible as evidence. You may step down.”

As the witness returned to his seat in the courtroom, his back was to the judge. He laughed loudly. Immediately the judge recalled him to the bench...

Judge:  “I am about to hold you in contempt of court.”

Witness:  “Why, your Honour? Did you actually see me laugh?”
