Experiencing true love in a hobbit-hole

“Second Breakfast” is a meal eaten after breakfast, but before
lunch. It is traditional in Bavaria, Poland, and Hungary.
In Bavaria or Poland, special dishes are made exclusively to
be eaten during second breakfast. In Vienna and most other
parts of Austria the second breakfast is referred to as Jause.
It is typical to eat four to five meals a day in these locations.

In J. R. R. Tolkien’s novel “The Hobbit”, the protagonist,
Bilbo Baggins, eats a second breakfast. In the preface to its
sequel, The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien mentions that
hobbits prefer to eat six meals a day.

Seven daily hobbit meals (most famously listed by a
distraught Pippin soon after realizing that Aragorn
would not be stopping for Second Breakfast)

9:00am – Second Breakfast
11:00am – Elevenses
1:00pm – Luncheon
