Heating Load Reduction
[An
engineer's response to a recent Edmonds company 'Wattsnew' article on "Employees
Asked To Reduce Heating Load" ...]
Each woman emits 130 watts of heat and each man emits 150 watts of heat. Using this basic
fact and multiplying the average (140 watts) by the number of people in any given day at
Edmonds (approximately 1000), the heating load of the Edmonds employees is 140 kW.
If we all want to help out with our Edmonds complex cooling load, we should all work from
home 3 days a week. That should reduce the cooling energy consumption here by 3.36 MWh per
week.
Because we have no need of the cafeteria, coffee machines, computer work stations,
LIGHTING, and oh yeah - closing all the blinds before we leave - that should add another
energy reduction of 3 MWh each week, for an honourable 6.36 MWh. That oughta help out
those failing coolers down in the basement (or are they on the roof?)...
