Australia, in birds of great beauty abounds,
And in forms so exotic it truly confounds.
Our lorikeets, cockatoos, galahs, one and all,
Are some that we love through both sight and their call.
But when pondering deeper, many birds of the night,
Although they are there, remain out of sight.
Among those, are ones of elusive mystique,
With large, focussed eyes, ear tufts and sharp beak.
Of course, most will know the birds that I mean
Are owls, which, though hidden or mostly unseen,
Exude through some spectral, hypnotic sixth sense,
Constant scrutiny silent, yet presence immense.
Are their powers transcendent? Their spirits unreal?
No matter the answers, owls human hearts steal.
