On October 14, 2012, 43 year old Austrian Felix Baumgartner jumped from an ultra-thin helium balloon at an altitude of 128,100 feet above the Earth, landing 10 minutes later in a New Mexico desert. He shattered the sound barrier while making the highest jump ever, reaching a speed of Mach 1.24 (or 1,342 km/h).
