Church services now online due to the concern over COVID-19 coronavirus

Good Friday Service thanks to joe-kster

Are you a shut-in, or can't make it to Church because of coronavirus closures? Great news: make plans to join Crossroads Community Church on Good Friday, April 10, at 10:00 a.m. PST for a special live stream event with Pastor Joel Defries, live from CMC Garage (normally services are held at Ravens Cry Theatre in Sechelt, B.C.): Go to www.CrossroadsSechelt.com on the main page, scroll down to the live video and you should be all set.

On Good Friday (aka God's Friday, Holy Friday and Great Friday) Christians celebrate the day Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins (1 John 1:10). Good Friday is followed three days later by Easter, the glorious celebration of the day Jesus was raised from the dead, heralding his victory over sin and death, pointing ahead to a future resurrection for all who are united to him by faith (Romans 6:5).

The earliest known use of "guode friday" is found in The South English Legendary, a text from around 1290. What's so "Good" about Good Friday, when it's such a bleak and dark event commemorating a day of suffering and death for Jesus? According to Dan MacAulay (creator of the new Podcast series, Starting Right with DannyMac), "Good Friday is good because it is all about the depth of love that God has for us. Jesus Christ, the son of God, came to this earth with one purpose, to die on that cross to make a way that you and I could have a personal relationship with God. With the promise that He would be with us in this life and the even greater promise of life forever in the presence of almighty God. From the outside it looks like a horrendous day, but at its core is the assurance of God’s love and our reconciliation with Him."
