Pixar's real life movie inspiration

In Pixar’s 2009 movie “Up”, a 78 year old ex balloon salesman named Carl Fredricksen, with the elderly care orderlies at the door, decides he has nothing to lose and takes his home and his memories, made airworthy with many hundreds of helium balloons, on his first and perhaps last, adventure.
