Merit-Based Salary for Teachers
A degree won’t help you at this school
At a Parent-Teacher Association meeting in New York, the chairperson, Mrs. Warkentin, said “And now we come to the most important part of our meeting: the suggestion, from the Board of Trustees, that the salaries of our teachers should be adjusted entirely on a merit basis. Not length of service, age, degrees in education. Only merit… Who would like to lead off the discussion?”
Up stood Mrs. Goldstein.
”Yes, Mrs. Goldstein?”
“Vat I have to say is straight, plain, and simple,” said Mrs. Goldstein. “Salary shouldn’t matter if teachers are single or merit. Treat them just the same.”
